Morgan, we lived in Germantown, MD, which was about 15-20 minutes from downtown DC by car with no traffic. We were about 5-10 minutes from a metro stop that went everywhere, though. We LOVED living there (aside from the Sept 11 attacks and those random shootings). If you want to live in MD, I suggest Rockville or Germantown. Bethesda is incredibly expensive, as is Georgetown. I think places in VA like Manassas or Alexandria are relatively livable, but I don't know how far the commute would be. Good luck! If you need any more info let me know!
