Along with relaxing over the labor day weekend we went with our friends Mitch & Sarah to check out George Washington's estate called Mount Vernon. His estate was HUGE! There are actors also that adorn the grounds to keep the authenticity and to share stories. I think since it was labor day that there weren't as many working... but we did get to meet Martha!
The adventure began in this area where they ushered us into a movie theater for a 15 min movie depicting some of the events that made George Washington the amazing man he was.
Then we were off to see the house! There it is in all it's huge amazing glory! What a beautiful day to go on a tour :)

Inside the house we weren't allowed to take pics... however in the outside kitchen that wasn't attached to the house we were able to. I liked the huge fireplace, blue china, and little storage boxes. Inside the home which is not pictured the detail was amazing!! The fireplace mantel was just so awesome and some of the rooms were painted a very bold green... it was in fashion during that time.
Front view of the home which connected to the kitchen on the right.
Peepin between the pilars..
One of the things I liked about the house... some of the main rooms had a large wire running across the top of the wall which connected to these bells outside. They were used to call the servants when they were needed.. I'm going to have to get one of those someday when I have a huge house and can call my kids to come do their chores :) hahaha.. Kids become servants right?!
Sarah & I got to meet Martha.. she had fun harrasing Mitch about his GW medicine shirt (he wore it in hopes that they would give him an admission discount.. nope).
Back of the home. There were chairs all lined up for patrons to hang out at because the view was amazing!!
View from the porch to the Potomac. I can't believe how beautiful the day was and there was a nice breeze. The estate was just super cool!
Mitch & Sarah :) Our fun party people!

After seeing the house we walked for a bit to find a very quiet area that was the tomb of George & Martha Washington. There was definitely a reverence there. He was truly a great man that stood for freedom and justice in the purist form.

Then it was off to their farm... SHEEP!!!
This was the dock out onto the Potomac.
Sarah was really excited to walk down the dock :) heheh
The Boyz.. discussing med school and tests I'm sure.. wait nope.. today was their day off!! I hope they were able to relax.
Then we took a little forest hike to get back to the museum on the other side of the estate. Danny was happy that I had packed a couple granola bars as he's showing everyone in this pic.. haha
The museum was pretty neat. It really told the whole story of George Washington which also told the story of how our country became to be the free democracy that exists today.
Original painting.. love it!! So my roomie in college was given this print as a gift and since we were Room Roomies.. (shared a room) I got to wake up everyday to see George. Pretty inspiring to think of how awesome he was. This painting will always hold a special place in my heart.
Modern depiction of Geroge
I talked the lady in the kids room into letting us get our pic taken in there.. the only problem is that the face holes were for kids and wayyyy too small for our big adult brains. I think we made it work though :)
It was an interactive exhibit.. but I didn't want to find out what was the "mystery smell" in that barrel.. but guess who did find out?!
Danny couldn't resist! hehehe
Some of the first dolla dolla bills yo.. pretty cool.
This is it.. the man! This was his death mask.. so we have an idea of what he looked like as he inspired thousands to go to war for a righteous purpose to create a free nation! Thank you President Washington.. we had a great time learning about you and touring your estate. We owe our freedom to you.
Then after a long day of touring.. we headed to our fav gourmet burger spot.. Ray's Hell Burger.. seriously the BEST!! Thanks Mitch & Sarah for coming up with a fun idea to spend Labor Day and for letting us tag along with you!

After diner it was home sweet home..
